What is the cost of a boom lift in Houston?
The cost of a man lift can vary depending on many factors. Used units will often cost less than new, while high-lift units will cost more than low-lift models. Electric units often cost more up front but offer cost savings over time. This makes it difficult to provide a flat rate across the board. For more information on the pricing of our boom lifts in Houston, contact our team today!
Do I need to be certified to operate a man lift in Houston?
Absolutely. Operators are required to have completed a certification course for boom lift operation and fall protection. We offer an in-class boom lift course, online boom lift training, and fall protection training. This makes it easy to complete your training in one place.
Which brand of man lift is better?
All boom lifts must be manufactured to certain safety and design standards. As a result, brand shouldn’t be the determining factor in your purchase. Instead, consider the specifications and capabilities of various units regardless of brand. Need help choosing the perfect unit for your needs? Contact our team for assistance.
How do I get replacement parts for my aerial lift?
We provide a full lineup of replacement parts for many popular makes and models! Whether you’re looking for core components or a general PM kit, we can help. Please note that you will need to provide your make, model, and serial number for our team to determine the correct parts.
How do I know which knuckle boom to choose?
To determine the correct unit for your needs, you’ll want to look at how high you need to reach. Next, consider the terrain you’ll be working on, typical weather/environmental conditions, and how long you’ll be using your equipment each day. This information can then be used to choose the perfect unit for your needs.

High-quality booms lifts don’t mean much if your operators aren’t certified to use them. That’s why we provide complete training for boom lifts in Houston and our other locations. With hundreds of unique online, in-class, and on-site courses, we offer training that complies with all schedules and learning styles. When you choose our boom lift training in Houston, you get quality instruction that complies with all current ANSI and OSHA standards. Regardless of your application, we can provide complete training solutions. We’re proud to offer the following training formats for most types of equipment:
In-Class
This traditional format consists of aspiring operators travelling to one of our training locations for a course. These 1-2 day courses consist of in-class theory, written testing, and practical hands-on instruction. Our in-class programs award certifications that satisfy most training requirements for most operations. Some jurisdictions may have additional requirements. Contact our team to learn more.
Online
If you’re faced with a busy schedule, it can be difficult to set aside an entire day or two to complete training. That’s why we offer a full catalog of online training courses that can fit any schedule or learning style. Each online course is self-paced and can be taken from any internet-capable device. This allows users to start a course, pause it, and resume it as their schedule allows. Please note that most online courses do not award full certification.
Blended
Blended training combines elements of online and in-class training to deliver a unique format that fits most schedules. Operators must first complete an online theory course and then an in-person practical assessment. This format awards the same level of certification as in-class training but is more flexible and requires less time commitment.
Not sure which training format is right for your operation? Can’t find the course you need? Contact our team for assistance!
Also known as knuckle booms and man lifts, boom lifts are a popular choice for aerial access. They consist of a wheeled base, a long extending boom, and a platform. Though all boom lifts are designed for easy aerial access, there are several distinct configurations, each with their own strengths and characteristics. The most common configuration is the “articulating” boom lift. This model features a distinctive “Z-shaped” boom that allows for intricate up and over positioning. Many articulating units also feature jibs between the boom and the platform that allow for precise positioning, make them ideal for avoiding obstacles.
Another common boom lift configuration is the “telescopic” or “straight boom” models. These units feature a completely straight boom that allows for greater lift heights, but reduced maneuverability of the basket. Telescopic boom lifts are becoming increasingly popular in the construction of high rise buildings due to their exceptional reach heights of up to 180 ft. The last type of boom lift is often referred to as a “spider lift”. These units feature four legs that unfold, extend, and push into the ground, stabilizing the unit. By utilizing these hydraulic-powered legs, operators state that the machine resembles a spider, explaining the name.
The boom lift was invented in 1951 by Walter E. Thornton-Trump. He called the first boom lifts “giraffes”, but they quickly became more widely referred to as “cherry pickers”. This is largely because most boom lifts were first used in orchards for picking fruit. Over time, boom lifts became a popular choice for construction and maintenance industries. Despite the change in application, the title of cherry picker has remained a popular nickname for boom lifts. Boom lifts have increased in terms of lift height, basket capacities and other features over time to match the demands of various industries. They continue to be a staple for construction sites and maintenance applications around the world.
