Safe Motorized Pallet Jack Training and Operation

Motorized Pallet Jack Training and OperationA motorized pallet jack is a widely used piece of equipment that raises a heavy load a few inches off the ground to move it to another location. Although this appears to be a simple task, there are many potential safety risks and hazards associated with it. That’s why it’s crucial that all operators are trained in the best practices for safe pallet jack operation.

This course meets all operator training requirements as outlined under OSHA's Powered Industrial Trucks Standard (1910.178 (l)). Specifically, it is designed to instruct users in safe pallet jack operation and pre-operation inspection. This helps to reduce the risk of safety incidents, maintaining productivity and consistency throughout the day.

What is "Blended" Training?

Blended training is one of the most flexible and effective ways to obtain OSHA and ANSI equipment operation certification. Certain regions and jurisdictions require operators to complete an in-class assessment in addition to online theory-driven content. That’s why we’ve combined the benefits of online and in-class lessons, creating a blended course.

For this blended motorized pallet jack training, learners will need to complete the online portion first. This can be done from any device and any location, allowing for learning at every pace (choose from our English or Spanish training). Once this has been completed, the learner must contact their closest Lonestar Forklift location and register for assessment. View our online calendar to check availability.

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the basic controls of a walk-behind and ride-on pallet jack.
  • Explain what to look for when performing a pre-use safety inspection.
  • Describe safe pallet jack operation (picking a load up, traveling with it, and placing it down at the destination).
  • Demonstrate how to safely park a motorized pallet jack.
  • Recognize common hazards associated with motorized pallet jacks and ways to avoid them.
