This online overhead crane course is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge required to inspect, maintain, and operate overhead cranes. Upon successful completion of this course, the learner should be able to recognize the primary causes of accidents and dropped loads, recognize crane hand signals, and list the requirements for pre-start inspections and logs.
Course Duration: Approximately 1 hour (60 minutes).

• Types of overhead crane accidents.
• The primary causes of dropped loads.
• Following the manufacturer’s instructions during inspection.
• Pre-operation inspections and log books.
• Proper spooling of wire rope on hoist drums.
• Inspections of wire ropes, end attachments, hoist blocks, equalizer sheaves, and hoist drums.
• Testing of high/low limit switches, controls, and hoist brakes.
• Inspection schedules as per recommended maintenance.
• The guidelines for safe operation.
• Crane hand signals.
As part of this online overhead crane training, there will be an assessment administered that has been designed to reinforce the information given. A mark of at least 70% or higher must be achieved in order to pass the course. If this mark is not achieved on the first attempt, the participant will be allowed up to 2 more attempts (3 attempts in total). Print materials have been made available online to aid in the study and reinforcement of this information.
Upon successful completion of this online overhead crane course, a certificate of completion will be made available for download and print. This certificate is valid for 36 months, starting from the date it is awarded. Please note that further practical training may be required to comply with safety regulations in your jurisdiction.
